The chemical formula of scandium oxide is Sc2O3. Property: white solid. It has cubic structure of rare earth sesquioxide. Density: 3.864. Melting point: 2403 ºC± 20 ºC. It is insoluble in water and soluble in hot acid. It is prepared by thermal decomposition of scandium salt. It can be used as evaporation material for semiconductor coating. Make variable wavelength solid-state lasers, high-definition television electron guns, metal halide lamps, etc.

Applications

Scandium Oxide is applied in optical coating, catalyst, electronic ceramics and laser industry. It is also used annually in making high-intensity discharge lamps. A high melting white solid used in high-temperature systems (for its resistance to heat and thermal shock), electronic ceramics, and glass composition. Suitable for vacuum deposition applications.
