It also contains impurities such as aluminum, silicon, carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, and manganese. Used as steel deoxidizer, desulfurizer, degassing agent and alloying agent. In the process of steelmaking, it is added to the steel as an alloying element, which plays a role in refining the microstructure grain, fixing the interstitial elements (C, N), and improving the strength of steel.

Applications
    Ferrotitanium is used as deoxidizer, degassing agent and carbon sulfur stabilizer in steelmaking. Titanium deoxidation for the production of killed steel can reduce the segregation in the upper part of the ingot, improve the quality of the steel and increase the yield of the ingot. Titanium and nitrogen dissolved in molten steel can be combined to form stable titanium nitride, which can eliminate the adverse effects of nitrogen on steel properties. Titanium and sulfur in molten steel form titanium sulfide, which can eliminate the formation of iron sulfide that causes hot brittleness. Titanium and carbon produce extremely stable titanium carbide, titanium carbide particles can prevent steel grain growth, refine the structure of steel, improve the strength of steel. The chemical affinity between titanium and carbon is greater than that between chromium and carbon, and the addition of titanium iron to fix carbon in stainless steel can eliminate the dilution phenomenon of chromium in stainless steel grain boundaries and improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel. In recent years, titanium has been used as a microalloyed element to produce high strength low alloy steels. The addition of titanium in cast iron contributes to the generation of fine quartz ink, and also plays the role of degassing, breeding, purification and refining the structure of the casting, and improves the wear resistance of the casting. Adding titanium to heat resistant cast iron can improve the heat resistance of cast iron. In addition, titanium-containing composite alloys are used as additives in the production of superalloys and aluminum alloys. The welding quality of welding electrode can be improved by using titanium iron as coating component.
