Melting point 2852ºC, boiling point 3600ºC. Insoluble in water, insoluble in alcohol, soluble in acid or ammonium salt solution.

Application 

1. Application in lithium batteries

The positive electrode material of lithium ion battery has a large reversible discharge capacity and good cycle performance by adding proper amount of nanometer magnesium oxide. The use in the positive electrode material can improve the electrical conductivity, and it is recommended to add 0.3-0.5%.

2. Application of zinc-nickel batteries

The addition of magnesium oxide into the zinc negative electrode active material by physical mixing method can reduce the charge and discharge polarization, reduce the internal resistance at the later stage of the cycle, improve the utilization rate of the negative plate active material, and extend the cycle life of the battery. The suitable addition amount is about 1.0% wt.

3. Application of high ZnCl2 batteries

The addition of a small amount of magnesium oxide to the positive active substance can adjust the electrohydraulic acidity, slow down the self-discharge, inhibit the battery bloating, improve the storage performance, and has a unique effect on increasing the discharge capacity and promoting the paste gelatinization. It is recommended to add 0.5-1%.

4. Application of Cd-nickel batteries

Adding appropriate amount of magnesium oxide, zinc oxide and iron oxide to the Cd electrode can improve the utilization rate of active substances. Adding magnesium oxide, indium trioxide and zinc oxide can improve the charge retention ability of sealed Cd-nickel battery.
